Today's column is by Eddie Hodgkiss who is 62 years young and has followed the Blades since the 1970s.
I joined Rainbow Blades after my grandson Alfie asked me to join him at the United For All charity match, which I did and thoroughly enjoyed. I'd love to play in it one day.
Over the years I have witnessed awful behaviour with regard to homophobia, racism and sexism at football. Things are getting better but we still have a long way to go. I was recently insulted for wearing my Rainbow Blades scarf but I just smiled and said "I feel so sorry for you and your ignorance" and walked away. Educating people and letting people know it should be live and let live is so important if we want abuse towards minority groups to be a thing of the past.
The Rainbow Blades community is wonderful and I am so grateful for the help and support they have given Alfie.
Onwards and upwards. Up the Blades!
